Adding a podcast
Finding a show by name, and browsing what is popular by country and category.
Open Add subscription from the Library, and the lower half of it is about finding a podcast you cannot name an address for.
Browsing what is popular
Browse top podcasts shows what is popular, by country and category. It is the best starting point if you are looking for something to listen to rather than something in particular.
Tapping a show opens it before you commit — you can read the description and see the recent episodes, and subscribe from there or back out.
Searching by name
Search every directory asks several podcast directories at once — iTunes, Podcast Index and hearthis.at — and merges the answers, so a show that only one of them lists still comes back. Under One directory at a time there is a row for each of them — Search iTunes, Search Podcast Index and Search hearthis.at — useful when one of them has better coverage of what you are after.
Results are merged by how highly each directory ranked them, not by which directory answered first, so a show two directories agree on tends to rank above one that only a single directory lists.
Subscribing is not the only way to listen. Opening a show from a search result plays its episodes without adding it to your library. Subscribe when you want new episodes to keep arriving.
What happens when you subscribe
The show is added to your library under Subscriptions, and Mediagg starts checking it for new episodes on the schedule you have set — see Refreshing.
New episodes appear on the New chip and on the New Episodes shelf on Home. Whether they are also downloaded automatically is a separate choice; see Automatic downloads.
