Appearance

AndroidiOS

Light, dark and black, and the three places the colours can come from.

Appearance is the first group of settings, under Common, because it is the one setting that applies to everything in the app whatever kind of library you have.

Theme

Theme offers four on Android:

On an iPhone it offers three — Follow the system, Light and Dark — because there Dark already is the true black, and a second dark would be a name for the same thing.

Colours

Colours decides where the accent comes from, and there are three answers:

ChoiceWhat it does
One colourNever changes
From the artworkFollows whatever is playing
From the wallpaperAndroid 12 and later

From the artwork re-tints the app to match the cover of whatever is playing, so the player takes on the colour of the record. From the wallpaper takes the palette your phone already built from your home screen.

A choice your device cannot honour is not offered. An iPhone has no wallpaper palette to read, so there Colours offers only One colour and From the artwork — the wallpaper option is absent rather than present and inert.

Accent

Accent appears while Colours is set to One colour, and offers eight: Purple, Blue, Teal, Green, Amber, Orange, Red and Pink.

Each is a seed for the whole scheme rather than a single colour painted on buttons. Picking one regenerates every shade the app uses from it, in whichever theme you are in, so the result stays readable in light and dark alike.

Under From the artwork or From the wallpaper the accent row is hidden, because it would be a choice nothing could act on.

App icon

A monthly supporter gets one more row here, App icon, headed by a line naming the perk — A Gold supporter's perk — with or without your medal, with your own tier in it. It offers four styles, Mediagg, Midnight, Sunrise and Paper, each plain or with your tier's medal on it (Midnight · Gold medal).

It is there only while the monthly support runs. For everybody else the row is absent rather than shown locked, and if the support stops the icon goes back to the usual one. See Supporting Mediagg.
