MediaggPrivacy policy
How Mediagg and Mediagg Personal handle your data. Effective 27 August 2026.
Mediagg is an Android media player. It plays the music, podcasts, radio, TV and video on your device, on media servers you run yourself, and on the open web. It is built on the open-source podcast app AntennaPod.
There are two editions, and they differ in exactly one respect
Everything about how your library is stored and played is identical. What differs is what the app reaches out to.

In Mediagg Personal the advertising and analytics libraries are not present in the app at all — not disabled by a setting, not switched off at runtime, simply not built in. There is therefore no advertising ID, no App Set ID and no Firebase installation identifier for it to read.
What stays on your device
The app records what it needs in order to work, and keeps it locally:
- The podcasts you follow, your queue, inbox, favourites, playlists and playback positions
- Your local music, video and file library, and the downloads you keep
- Sign-in details for any media server you add — Subsonic, Navidrome, Airsonic, OpenSubsonic, Jellyfin or Audiobookshelf
- Listening statistics, and every app setting
None of this is uploaded. There is no Mediagg account, and no server of ours holds a copy of your library. Backup and restore writes a file to a location you choose, on your device.
What leaves your device, and when
A configuration file, at startup. Both editions fetch a small configuration file from GitHub each time the app starts, which is how features can be turned on or off and how the app knows a new version is available. It carries nothing about you. As with any web request, GitHub receives your IP address and the time of the request. Nothing from your library is included.
Podcast search and discovery. When you search for a podcast, or open a discovery screen, your query is sent to the service you are searching. Those services are Apple (iTunes), PodcastIndex.org, fyyd and HearThis. They may retain the query, your device's country, your IP address and the time. Once you subscribe, the feed comes from whoever hosts it and the search service is no longer involved. This applies to both editions.
Radio and TV — Mediagg only. The full edition downloads a directory of stations and channels so it can be searched and browsed. Playing a station connects your device to that broadcaster's stream, and the broadcaster sees your IP address as it would in any player. Mediagg Personal makes none of these requests and has no radio or TV feature.
Podcasts, media and artwork. Feeds, episodes and images are fetched from whoever hosts them, exactly as a browser would. Those hosts see your IP address, and their own policies apply.
Your own media servers. Requests go directly from your device to the address you entered. Nothing is proxied through us. Credentials are stored on your device.
gpodder.net synchronisation. Off unless you turn it on. If you do, your subscriptions and episode actions are sent to the gpodder.net account you signed in to.
Advertising — Mediagg only. The full edition shows ads through Google AdMob, which collects data of its own, including your device's advertising identifier. See AdMob's policy below. You can reset or delete the advertising ID in Android's settings. Mediagg Personal shows no ads and contains no advertising library.
Crash reporting — Mediagg only. The full edition reports crashes through Firebase Crashlytics so faults can be found and fixed. A report describes the failure and the device, not your library. Mediagg Personal contains no crash-reporting library and sends no reports.
Casting. Chromecast and DLNA/UPnP casting happens over your local network, between your device and the one you are casting to.

Cookies
This website sets no cookies and carries no analytics. The app does not use cookies itself, though third-party libraries in the full edition may.
Children's privacy
Mediagg is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided personal information, contact us and it will be removed.
Security
Because your library stays on your device, the protection that matters most is your device's own. For what does travel — server sign-ins, feed downloads — the app uses HTTPS wherever the other end offers it. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and absolute security cannot be guaranteed.

The app and this site link to places we do not operate, including podcast hosts, radio broadcasters and app stores. Their policies are their own.
Changes to this policy
This page will be updated when the app changes what it does. The effective date at the top says when it was last revised.
